A Scheme for Improved Delay and Frame Drop Probabilities in 802.11e Networks

چکیده
This paper describes a scheme, AEDCF-CW/PF, that allows stations implementing IEEE 802.11e to have varying maximum contention window sizes and persistence factors. The values of these parameters are adjusted using knowledge of the station’s collision probability. Our research indicates that stations implementing this scheme experience much lower frame delays and frame dropping probabilities under heavy loads. In addition, this scheme has the benefit of not requiring many modifications within the station.

A performance analysis of block ACK scheme for IEEE 802.11e networks
The demand for the IEEE 802.11 wireless local-area networks (WLANs) has been drastically increasing along with many emerging applications and services over WLAN. However, the IEEE 802.11 medium access control (MAC) is known to be limited in terms of its throughput performance due to the high MAC overhead, such as interframe spaces (IFS) or per-frame based acknowledgement (ACK) frame transmissio...

We present in this paper a reliable optimized transmission of H.264 video streaming over IEEE 802.11e Wireless Mesh Networks (WMNs) based on a Cross-Layer Adaptive Enhanced Distributed Channel Access (CLA-EDCA) MAC architecture. The IEEE 802.11e EDCA offers a prioritized transmission to guarantee the minimum packets delay and drop rate needed for time bound applications, such as VoIP and Video....

The 802.11e working group has recently proposed innovative functionalities in order to support delay-sensitive multimedia applications, such as real-time voice and video, in Wireless Local Area Networks (WLANs). In particular, the 802.11e proposal introduces: (1) the Hybrid Coordination Function (HCF), which is an improved channel access method aimed at allocating the first-hop WLAN bandwidth t...

In this paper, loss probabilities and steady state probabilities of data packets for an asynchronous transfer mode (ATM) network are investigated under the buffer division and push-out schemes. Data packets are classified in classes k which arrive in Poisson fashion to the service facility and are served with general service rate under buffer division scheme, finite buffer space N is divided in...

The IEEE 802.11e standard extension for medium access control protocol in wireless local area networks enhances the existing IEEE 802.11 protocol specification towards support for quality of service and improved spectrum management. We look in this paper specifically into an 802.11e concept that is referred to as block acknowledgment. Unlike the original 802.11, where every frame reception must...
